Legacy fabricates custom stone surrounds for wood-burning fireplaces, gas fireplaces, and electric inserts. We handle the full scope: the surround face, the hearth slab, and the interior firebox liner where applicable. Each piece is templated, cut, and finished in our Findlay shop. Granite
The most heat-resistant natural stone we carry and our most popular choice for fireplace surrounds. Granite handles the thermal cycling of a working fireplace better than any other material, expanding and contracting with temperature changes without cracking. Available in a range from quiet neutrals to bold exotics, and sealed at our shop with our professional-grade lifetime sealer before installation.
Dramatic Statement
Quartzite
The hardest natural stone we work with and one of the most visually compelling. Quartzite’s bold veining and dramatic movement make it a natural choice when the fireplace is meant to be the room’s centerpiece. It handles heat well and resists scratching better than marble, making it a smart choice for surrounds that need to perform as well as they look.
Classic Elegance
Marble
For gas fireplaces and electric inserts, where direct high heat is not a concern. Marble is an elegant and timeless choice. Carrara, Calacatta, and Statuario surrounds have a warmth and refinement that no engineered surface can replicate. We recommend marble for surrounds where the aesthetic is the priority and direct flame contact is not a factor.
Farmhouse and Industrial
Soapstone
Historically one of the materials of choice for fireplaces and wood stoves — soapstone is naturally non-porous, requires no sealing, and has exceptional heat resistance and retention. It actually absorbs heat and releases it slowly, making a soapstone hearth genuinely warmer to the touch hours after the fire has gone out. Rich character that develops more depth over time.
Modern and Minimal
Porcelain
Large-format porcelain panels are an increasingly popular choice for contemporary and minimalist fireplace designs. Nearly seamless at scale, completely non-porous, and available in stone-look finishes that photograph beautifully. Porcelain is particularly well-suited to floor-to-ceiling surround designs where the fireplace becomes an architectural feature rather than a furniture piece.

Quartz
Suitable for electric insert surrounds and decorative fireplaces without direct heat exposure. Quartz offers zero-maintenance performance in a wide range of colors and marble-inspired looks.
